Capping Energy Costs and Emissions - Building Economic Opportunity

The Adirondacks Can Set an Example

Time for the Adirondacks

Population growth around the world is aiming for the 10 billion mark. That 10 billion will be filled with new consumer classes growing by the hundreds of millions. All of us will be chasing finite natural resources and fueling global competition for those resources.

The world needs good examples that show how people can grow an economy and do it without overwhelming the natural world, including overwhelming the systems that uptake C02 emission.

There is a place on Earth where people have worked to try to find a way to allow nature to keep pace. We have not invented the perfect solution in the Adirondacks, but many believe we have major pieces of the puzzle in place. If we can show that 103 towns and villages can break the grip of energy dependence and build our local economies side by side with a rich and diverse natural world we could set an example.

The Adirondacks aren't just anywhere. We are twenty percent of one big state. People from all 50 states and all over the world come to visit us. If we do something big, the rest of the world will notice. We have a legacy of independent thinking, and a legacy as the very first place on Earth where sportsmen and conservationists and scientists and regular citizens changed the rules to help a proud place keep its character.

Just as America has a great opportunity to use its creative energy to break the grip of carbon on our economies, inventive Americans in the Adirondacks can show how people can can have valuable jobs and a clean stream and pure air too.

ADKCAP is a community of inventive Adirondackers working to make this region a place where people and nature can thrive together.
